When the 2026 markets run
Dates below are the published 2026 listings. Where a 2026 date is not confirmed, that is stated.
Old Town Square Christmas Market on Staroměstské náměstí and Wenceslas Square Christmas Market on the lower part of Václavské náměstí are both confirmed from 28 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Náměstí Republiky Christmas Market, facing V Celnici, is confirmed from 25 November 2026 to 24 December 2026. A new stall market on Ovocný trh was contracted in 2026 as a community-focused market; opening dates have not been published.
Náměstí Míru Christmas Market, in front of the Church of St Ludmila, is confirmed from 20 November 2026 to 24 December 2026. Tylovo Square Christmas Market is confirmed from 26 November 2026 to 24 December 2026. Náplavka, Heřmaňák and Kulaťák farmers' markets are each listed for Advent Saturdays 28 November, 5 December, 12 December and 19 December 2026. Jiřák Farmers' Market runs Wednesday–Friday 8:00–18:00 and Saturday 8:00–14:00 from February to December; a separate Advent stall overlay ran in 2025, but 2026 Christmas dates are not yet published. Karlín Christmas Markets and Veggie Christmas both take place on 6 December 2026. Christmas Lemarket runs 11–13 December 2026. MINT Market Praha Christmas is confirmed for 28–29 November 2026.
Central squares, neighbourhood markets and indoor events
The open-air markets on Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square use wooden stalls and continue until 6 January. Old Town Square stalls sell Czech Christmas goods and handmade items such as glass and straw ornaments, ceramic and wooden nativity scenes, and food and drink. Wenceslas Square stalls sell handmade crafts and Christmas food and drinks, with a stage programme through Three Kings Day. Náměstí Republiky sells mistletoe, Advent wreaths, candles, ornaments, toys, sweets, nativity scenes, Advent calendars, crafts and Christmas food, and is listed only until 24 December 2026.
Neighbourhood square markets are smaller local events. Náměstí Míru sells ornaments, ceramic nativity scenes, wooden toys, sheep's-wool goods, jewellery and Christmas food and drinks. Tylovo Square sells mistletoe, wreaths, candles, toys, nativity scenes, sweets and hot food. Karlín on 6 December has Christmas food and drink, a wooden nativity scene and a children's mailbox for letters to Ježíšek, the Czech figure who brings Christmas gifts. Advent Saturday markets at Náplavka, Heřmaňák and Kulaťák sell Czech farm produce, bread, dairy, meat, honey, flowers and street food in the morning and early afternoon.
Indoor events are a different format: Veggie Christmas is a one-day vegan market and plant-based conference; Christmas Lemarket is a three-day design market of independent Czech designers; MINT Market Praha Christmas is a pre-Christmas design market of more than a hundred brands. Entry to the listed open-air markets is free. An entry price for Christmas Lemarket and MINT Market Praha Christmas has not been published.
Opening hours
Published daily hours for Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square are 10:00–22:00. Those are ordinary season hours; holiday hours for 24–26 December 2026 have not been fully published. Náměstí Míru is listed daily 10:00–20:00, two hours earlier. Neighbourhood and farmers' markets generally close earlier than the central evening markets. Náplavka and Kulaťák are Saturdays 08:00–14:00. Heřmaňák is Saturdays 9:00–13:00 in December (8:30–13:30 earlier in the season). Karlín on 6 December is 12:00–20:00. Veggie Christmas is 10:00–19:00. Christmas Lemarket is 11:00–19:00. MINT Market Praha Christmas opens from 10:00; the closing time has not been published. Hours for Náměstí Republiky, Ovocný trh and Tylovo Square have not been published.
Food, drink, prices and how to pay
Typical stall drinks are svařák (mulled wine), usually sold as 0.2 l, and medovina (mead), often served hot in 0.1–0.2 l. Both are winter market drinks, not Christmas Eve dinner at home. Klobása is grilled sausage, typically in a baguette or with bread: an ordinary Czech market snack.
Trdelník is a hollow spiral pastry roasted on a spit, coated with sugar and often filled with ice cream or Nutella. It is not a traditional Czech Christmas food. It is a tourist product sold at markets and in the centre: a chimney cake of Hungarian or Transylvanian origin, not a Czech Advent dish.
Stall prices are set by the stalls themselves. The figures below are approximate 2025-season prices. 2026/27 stall prices have not been published. At the main Prague markets in 2025, trdelník was typically 100 CZK plain and 100–180 CZK with extras. Svařák at Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square was 100 CZK per 0.2 l (organiser Taiko); other Prague markets were about 60–100 CZK, plus a cup deposit. Medovina was about 80–130 CZK depending on stall and measure; 100 CZK was cited alongside svařák and punch on those two squares, plus deposit. The deposit amount for 2026 has not been published. Where a stall uses a deposit mug, the deposit is reclaimed on return of the cup.
Legal tender is the Czech koruna (CZK). Czechia is not in the euro area. Christmas-market stalls are mixed: some accept cards, many prefer or require cash in CZK. Do not rely on euros or cards at every stall. Carry cash for deposits and smaller stands.
Christmas tree on Old Town Square
The Christmas tree on Old Town Square is due to be switched on on 28 November 2026. That date is confirmed. In 2025 the lighting was on 29 November. In the 2025/26 season the tree show ran daily at half past each hour from 16:30 to 21:30. Show times for 2026/27 have not yet been published.
What changes on 24 December
24 December 2026 is a Thursday and a public holiday (Christmas Eve / Štědrý den). Under Act No. 223/2016 Sb., sale is banned in retail shops with a sales floor over 200 m² from 12:00 to 24:00. Chains typically stop admissions around 11:30–11:45. The ban does not apply to shops under 200 m², petrol stations, pharmacies, or shops at airports, railway stations and bus stations. Restaurants are not covered by that law. Many Czech restaurants close for family Christmas Eve; some tourist restaurants stay open. 2026 restaurant lists are not a legal schedule.
Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square markets are confirmed through 6 January 2027, but 2026 holiday hours are not fully published. In 2025 those two markets ran 10:00–14:00 on 24 December. Náměstí Míru and Náměstí Republiky are listed to 24 December 2026; their hours that day have not been published.

Is trdelník a traditional Czech Christmas food?
No. Trdelník is a tourist product sold at markets and in the centre: a chimney cake of Hungarian or Transylvanian origin, not a Czech Advent dish and not part of Christmas Eve dinner at home.
